This week we worked SO hard!!! In reading we were focusing on getting to know characters in our stories and identifying their character traits vs. their appearence. We read some great books with strong characters including Officer Buckle and Gloria as well as Bad Case of Stripes. Ask your student to tell you about these two books.
In writing we learned the 5 parts of a friendly letter and practiced writing to our friends and family. We also worked on writing a new self selected non-fiction teaching book. I have to stop for just a minute and say that I am SO THRILLED to work in a district that makes technology a priority. We now have 10 ipads in our classroom, and 8 chromebooks. This means that I have enough devices that every single student in our room can have access to one at any point in the day. WOW. One-to-one technology in first grade. Teachers in other districts DREAM of this. I promise.
So... back to writing...
Each student got to pick a topic that they wanted to research using PebbleGo (students can use this at home: Username - willardeast Password: school) and a variety of non-fiction library books.
I have NEVER heard our class so quiet. It was silent. Every single child was engaged, every single child was writing, every single child was learning. And as the district motto says - #everychildconnected.
