ANOTHER GREAT WEEK!

8/26/2016

We had another great week in Room 203! This week we read several books by Kevin Henkes including Chester's Way, Lilly and the Purple Plastic Purse, and Shelia Rae The Brave. We made some great connections to the characters in these books.

We have still be working hard on addition and subtraction fluency. I have to say, my students have worked SO hard! Many of them thought our math was extra challenging at the beginning of the week but by today most of the students were understanding not only the concept of missing addends, but also the progression of everything we have learned so far in our math. I LOVE LIGHT BULB MOMENTS!!!

ow! What a great week! It is crazy to think how quickly young learners catch on to routine. I am a BIG believer that students thrive with consistency and routine. My first graders are starting to get a good understanding of our daily schedule and the flow of our day. We are still launching Daily 5 right now, but they are already coming in and being actively engaged in 2 rounds - and we just started school! They are just blowing me away with their eagerness to learn.

EXTRA MATH WORKSHEETS
We have a wonderful new math curriculum this year! You may have noticed that your child brought home some extra math worksheets this week. Please do not feel like your child HAS to do these. They are obviously welcome to
 complete them as extra
practice but it is not required.

DOJO
Have you signed up for DOJO yet? This is how I will communicate with you about your child’s behavior. You can also check out our “Class
Story” to look for pictures, reminders, and announcements! Don’t hesitate to let me know if you need help signing up!

 FUNDRAISER
Fundraiser packets came home today with your student. The reach out booklets are due back on MONDAY. There are additional items available online at www.gaschoolstore.com

EXCELLENT START TO AN EXCELLENT YEAR!

WOW! What an incredible way to start off the year! I must say, I have already been blown away by the amazing reading and writing that I saw take place the first two days! Students are already taking risks and trying new things. I LOVE IT!!!
We started the year out by spending some time getting to know each other. I shared my All About Me bag with the class today.  After sharing an Eiffel Tower key chain we used Google Maps to "visit" the tower and look around the city of Paris. Ask your kiddo about this. If you haven't played around with Google Maps I encourage you to give it a try! There are photo spheres for millions of different places that allow you to get a 360 degree view of destination all over the world.
 Isn't technology wonderful?!?!

On Thursday we read the book First Day Jitters. It is about a girl named Sara that is nervous about her first day at a new school. Ask your student to share with you about the surprise ending! After reading the book we made our own "Jitter Juice" to help calm any first day jitters that we may have had.

MONDAY REMINDER!
Please don’t forget that school is released EARLY every Monday! We will dismiss at 3:10 every

NUT ALLERGY!!!
Please make special note of a nut allergy that we have in our classroom. You will want to keep this in mind when you purchase snack for your child’s helper days. Please avoid foods with any type of nuts. Thank you!

JUMPING WITH JOY!!!

Are your ready for the best school year ever?!?! I had a pretty spectacular summer (as you can see, I crossed visiting Europe off my bucket list) but I have been counting down the days and I cannot wait to kick off the new school year!

I am hoping that you received my email with some additional details about Meet the Teacher Night! I can't wait to meet each of you on Tuesday evening (6-7 PM). Our classroom is Room 203 and is directly across from Mrs. Wood's classroom.

As you are walking down the hallway you will notice some crates outside several of the classrooms. You and your child will be sorting his or her school supplies into the crates outside of our classroom, so please bring your child's supplies with you. If they are not labeled - it is okay! If you don't have everything yet, that is okay too! Just bring what you do have. The items that do not have a crate or basket will go into your child's cubby inside our classroom. Bringing your child's supplies will make life so much simpler on Thursday morning, I promise! It will not only help you and your child but also me as well.

There will be a couple of forms to fill out on the back table inside my classroom.
One of these will be a transportation form where you'll write down how your child is getting home from school. If your child is a bus rider you will need to know his or her bus number. There should be someone from the bus barn in the gym to help you with this if you do not know their bus number.

Please do not hesitate to email me (robinkramer@willardschools.net) if you have any questions at all! I cannot wait to share this year with you and your child!

Getting to Know Mrs. Kramer

Family: I have a super cool husband, Matt, who grew up in northern Illinois. We often answer to "Mattman and Robin."  We have a beautiful daughter, Libby, who is a senior at Willard High School. We also have two yorkies, Winston and Maddox.
Years in education: This is my 13th year teaching! I taught kindergarten for 4 years (at East) before moving to 1st grade.
Favorite Food: Cheese Pizza (The Big Slice has the absolute best in Springfield!)
Drink: Coke, Dr. Pepper or water
Color: Pink
Music: Country or Christian
Interesting Facts: 3rd grade teacher, Mrs. Letterman, is my younger sister. Our older sister teaches in Springfield. The fun doesn't stop there... our dad was an elementary principal and our mother was a speech pathologist for Springfield Public Schools. 5 for 5 in education.
