Every year, the church I attend, National Heights Baptist Church, offers an incredible Vacation Bible School. Many of the people that are affiliated with the planning are either teachers, or have been teachers. We have a HUGE turn out year after year. My mother is the preschool director so this year I will be working in a preschool classroom. Due to some other commitments, I will only be there Wednesday - Friday this year, however, I would like to extend the invitation to your children. There is a class for all students ages 4 - high school. Please click {here) for more information and to register your child. Another great opportunity that National Heights offers is a program called Kids Cafe. The program actually starts this week since some schools are out beginning Monday. Kids Cafe offers FREE LUNCH every day (Monday though Friday) May 20- August 9th. Lunch is served from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for children 18 years old and younger as well as the parent / adult that is with them. There are no income requirements. This program is offered through the Ozarks Food Harvest. For more information, click {here} or email me! Field Day Fun!SPELLING

You are welcome to join us for the fun if you would like. All students need to wear play clothes and tennis shoes for this event. Coach J is planning on the kids getting pretty wet if the weather is warm enough, so your child is encouraged to bring an extra set of dry clothes to change in to. As of right now the weather is looking pretty good for Wednesday but if it is chilly in the morning you may want to send a sweatshirt or jacket for your student. Don’t forget to send a sack lunch for your child if they did not sign up for a school sack lunch. PRACTICE FOR READING ASSESSMENT Don’t forget to have your child re-tell the story to you after reading together. If you are reading a chapter book, you can practice retelling after each chapter if that is easier for your child. This will really help them as I begin reading assessments next week! As I assess their reading they will be tested on accuracy, fluency (they are timed), and comprehension. They need to pass all three areas to move to the next level. For the comprehension part they need to retell the story in the correct sequence. This is why it is so important to practice.
