I know that Mrs. Whisler sent home the Read-a-thon packet on Friday while I was gone. However, one of the things on my Thursday "to do" list was to attach OUR goal sheet and a little extra info. Then we weren't at school Thursday and I was in Oklahoma City on Friday - so it obviously did not come home with the packet. Sooo.... I had every intention of sending it home yesterday and completely forgot. Yesterday was the last day for one of our first grade friends and we spent the last few minutes of the day haring our favorite things about him, giving group hugs, and having a dance arty. And here we are with another snow day and still no extra information about the first grade expectations for the Read-A-Thon. I am so sorry!
The first grade teachers have set a goal of 250 minutes of reading. Students get to include the time he or she spends reading at school too! Every day (starting yesterday) your child will get to log 20 minutes of reading time from our Read to Self portion of Daily 5. This means that your student will need to spend about 10 minutes reading at home school night and then a little more on the weekends (and snow day - fingers crossed that this is the last one!) Assuming we are in school tomorrow, a time log will come home. We will fill in the time we spend reading at school and then you can help your child fill in the time they spend reading at home.
Don't forget, friends and family are also able to make "one time donations" if they would rather not pledge per minute. I also encourage your child to keep filling out our class reading logs for the books that they are reading at
home!
If we meet our school goal of $4, 000 Mr. Morton and Coach J will be spending some time in a bounce house dressed as Angry Birds! Let's work together to help make this happen!
Stay warm and safe today!
