A Little Monkey Buisness!

This week we focused on retelling stories with beginning, middle, and end AND writing stories with beginning, middle and an end. One of my favorite books to use for this is Caps for Sale. This week, we read the book on Tuesday and then the students wrote about his or her favorite part. Check out some great student work samples!
We also celebrated Grandparent's Day at Willard East. Grandparents and Honorary Grandparents were invited to eat lunch with their grandchild and even visit the Book Fair.

NEWS AND REMINDERS

SPELLING WORDS

MRS. KRAMER WILL BE ABSENT
I will be at a meeting for Common Core all day on Monday. Please send a note or call the office if your child will be going home a way other then normal.

WELCOME!
We have a new student in our classroom! Aidan joined our class today and we are excited to have him! Please make note of this addition as you plan for your child’s snack days. Also, I will be hosting a practicum student from Missouri State for the next 10 weeks. Miss Parks will be in our classroom on Tuesday mornings observing and working with the students.

DON'T FORGET... School will not be in session on Monday, September 24th. The teachers will be participating (and leading) professional development district-wide.

A POSITIVE NOTE
Our classroom had a visitor on Thursday. A principal from another elementary school popped in to see us using technology in our classroom. I could not have asked for better behaved students and they handled the surprise guest extremely well on super short notice!

Ask your student about…
Habitats,  writing stories with beginning, middle, and ends, the book fair, My Little Sister Ate One Hare, grandparent’s lunch and our new student!

BUSY FOUR DAYS!

I MUST take a minute and brag on your children!!! Our ENTIRE class scored 100% on last Friday's spelling test! Nice job!!! We celebrated with some St. George's donuts on Tuesday (if you have never experienced these you should give them a try!) To top it all off, Principal Miller visited our room during our celebration, took our picture and hung it up on her Brag Board.
Then, on Wednesday, the class earned their 50th Tiger Token (ALREADY!!!) and celebrated with an extra recess. Students earn Tiger Tokens from special class teachers, other teachers, Principal Miller - pretty much any staff member. They are earned by displaying good hallway behavior, nice manners, great listening, hard work, or anything that a teacher sees fit. I can not believe that we are not even a month in to school and we have already reached 50!!! WOW!

  BOOK FAIR
The book fair will be open all of next week. Students will be allowed to go with a parent before / after school, with a grandparent or honorary grandparent on September 11th during our lunch time or during our regular library time on Wednesday. All students will visit the book fair as a class on Wednesday, so they will not return or check out
library books next week.

MRS. KRAMER WILL BE ABSENT
I will be at a district training at Willard Middle School on Wednesday afternoon. Monday,
September 17th I will be at a meeting for Common Core all day. Your students did a FANTASTIC job with the sub last week and that makes me feel so much better about being out of the classroom!

Ask your student about…
Living and non –living things, Sylvester and The Magic Pebble, story problems, earning extra recess, Read to Someone, visiting Mrs. Woodall, and writing with words and pictures.

FIELD DAY REMINDERS AND INFORMATION
* We will begin walking to the football field around 9:00.
* All students need tennis shoes, play clothes and a sack lunch. Students may want a sweatshirt or light jacket since we are the morning session.
** I mentioned on my blog that students may want to wear their school t-shirts to autograph. We are going to do this school-wide on the LAST day of school. Please discuss with your child whether or not they will be participating. I do not want anyone to sign a shirt that was not supposed to be signed!

MRS. KRAMER
I will be leaving at lunch next Thursday. I just wrapped up my final classwork and graduate next weekend with my Masters from SBU! I have some family coming in town for graduation so I will be taking Thursday afternoon off, but I will be back on Friday.

Just a reminder - I will be gone tomorrow to Warrensburg, MO for a school observation. Please encourage your child to be on his or her very BEST behavior. Mrs. Whistler will be my substitute and Mrs. King will also be here. They will do a fantastic job and it is great that my class already knows them so well.
I will also be gone next Tuesday and Wednesday to another training about the new Common Core Standards.

Don't forget... Veterans Day Assembly on Friday at 9:00 in the gym. Principal Miller had an idea of dressing in red, white and blue. Feel free to take part in this celebration!

Mrs. Kramer to be Absent
I will be at a district training on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Many of you know my substitute, Jackie Uckele. The students know her through Good News Club, her own children, and she is the yearbook photographer. Please help your student remember to be on his or her best behavior. Also, you will need to call the office or send a written note if your child will go home any way other than he or she usually does.
