A Very FANTASTIC Week!

What a great week we had in Room 203! We have been learning so much about bats, owls and bears as well as cave formations! One of the guides at Fantastic Caverns was very impressed with our prior knowledge about caves during our field trip on Thursday. Speaking of our field trip... our class did an amazing job of representing Willard East and the tiger community! We were respectful and great listeners. Weather may have kept our day from going as we had planned, but it didn't keep us from having a Fantastic day!

The following video may not work on all mobile devices.

IT'S ALMOST FIELD TRIP TIME!!!

We had a very special presentation on Thursday by one of our very own classmates! Ethan worked super hard with Mrs. Coffey to learn all about the solar system. After researching, he made an incredible presentation using thinglink to share his information with our class. He did a fantastic job! It can be very nerve racking getting in front of the class and sharing! GREAT JOB, ETHAN!!! You can check out his thinklink here!
FIELD TRIP THURSDAY
Just a few reminders and helpful tips about our trip…
All students should wear their Friday shirt on the field trip.We will leave the school at 9:30. Our tour of Fantastic
Caverns will begin at 10:00 and last 90 minutes. This will put us at Ritter Springs about 11:45 or shortly after. Right now the weather is looking cool but dry, however they are calling for rain on Wednesday—so we will keep an eye on the forecast. Obviously, the rain will not change our plans for the cave, but if it does rain on Thursday we will return to our classroom for lunch instead of going to the park. I recommend sending at least a warm hoodie or coat with each child.  It has been very cool at the park for us in the past and the cave is 60 degrees.
Lunch Tip: If your child is bringing a home lunch I highly recommend packing it in a disposable bag  -with only disposable items inside. This will allow them to eat, throw away their trash, and play without keeping track of a lunchbox.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

PICTURE DAY MAKE UP
Our spring pictures have been rescheduled for Thursday, April 9th.

GENIUS HOUR IS HERE!!!
We have been talking about it a lot and the kids are getting excited—it is finally here! We will officially launch Genius Hour next Tuesday. All students will be in their regular classroom Tuesday and Thursday, but beginning Tuesday, April 1st we will be working in small groups with a variety of helpers. This is going to be great and I promise to write about our experience on my blog in case you want to “tag along” for the fun!

HAVE A GREAT BREAK!!!

We had a WONDERFUL week celebrating Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Week! We were supposed to start the week off with some special guests from Tiger Cubs Preschool but sadly, the weather did not allow our friends to walk over. Hopefully, we will be able to reschedule a time to read with them! I had a great experience at my conferences, and once again returned to hear that my students were very well behaved! So... on Friday we celebrated by making "Seuss Juice" - and it was a huge hit! We also followed some simple directions from First Grade Blue Skies to draw some super cute Cat in the Hat portraits.

WEEKLY NEWS

FAMILY READING NIGHT
Family Reading Night has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 19th. I believe that our schedule for the evening will remain the same:
Dinner will be available from 5:00-7:00 PM and activities will be from 6:00-7:30 in various classrooms. This is a FREE event (other than dinner if you choose to eat).
The Book Fair WILL be open on the new date!!!

 GENIUS HOUR: COMING SOON!!!
The launch for our Genius Hour is just around the corner and honestly, I cannot wait to get started! Ms. Smith and I attended a session on Genius Hour while we were at our conference this week. It was great to hear from other teachers about their journey!  We have some great ideas—but really, most of this will be up to the students! We will be partnering with Ms. Smith’s class for this and children will be working in groups of 5-6 students.  I will share details about our class journey on my blog each week so be sure to follow!

 FIELD TRIP
Our 1st grade field trip is quickly approaching. Please check for the important note regarding our field trip that came home today! Permission slips will be sent home right after we return from Spring Break!
