 LOOKING FORWARD
I cannot believe that first semester is over! It is so crazy to me how quickly our time is passing. Your child will be bringing home their second quarter grade card shortly after we return from break. Please feel free to contact me  after you have reviewed your child’s progress. I would be happy to meet with you should you have any questions or concerns.

MATH:
During third quarter we will be working on measuring, simple fractions, and telling time to the hour and half hour. We will continue our addition and subtraction fluency practice as well.

Writing:
We will be writing opinion and persuasive pieces when we return from break

SIGHT WORD LIST
I am sending home a copy of the 3rd Quarter sight word list. This is something that you can work on with your child as time permits. Your child will be asked to recognize the words on the list instantly, without sounding them out.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

GINGERBREAD STEM PROJECT

Thank you SO much to all of the parents that helped make this project possible! There is NO way we could have done this without your time and supply donations! We had a BLAST doing this project and the kids were so creative! I was very impressed!

It's Beginning to Look a lot Like Christmas!

I have to start by sharing some great news!!! On Thursday I was at a meeting all day which means that I had a substitute in my classroom. I returned to an amazing compliment about the behavior of my class. My substitute was so impressed with how hard my students worked all day. As a teacher, I really dislike being gone. It is so much work to get ready for a substitute and honestly, I worry about my students the whole time I am away. However, there is no better feeling than returning to find out that the students were awesome while you were gone.
Our classroom Elf, Gilbert, was also so impressed that he left a nice note and candy canes for  the entire class!
STEM CHALLENGE SLIGHT CHANGE
I cannot wait for our STEM Challenge with Mrs. Whisler’s class on Wednesday!
We will be starting at 9:30AM (NOT 9:00 as originally planned) in the ART room. There was a slight time conflict for 2nd grade. Thank you so much to everyone that has sent in supplies and / or offered your time to come and help us. It is going to be a great day!

WINTER PARTY
We will be having our Winter Party on Friday morning at 8:45 in our classroom. We will be enjoying breakfast along with some crafts and games. The party will last about an hour. Please feel free to join us if your schedule allows. Don’t forget that we are collecting $2 from each student to help cover the cost of our party.

IMPORTANT NEED!
Your student will be bringing home a slightly breakable item next week. If your student rides the bus or goes to Tiger Tales it would be WONDERFUL if they could bring a small container to bring their item home inside. It could be an old Cool Whip or margarine container—anything that will help protect their item. They can bring these in any day next week.  THANK YOU!!!

TRADITIONS!

I cannot believe that Christmas is right around the corner! The weeks are just flying by so quickly. Speaking of Christmas... I grew up in a home where Christmas was a HUGE deal. I have so many wonderful memories of the traditions that we had. We have carried many of these on into our adult lives. We still get matching PJs every year (and now, so do our children) and my mom still labels all of the gifts with reindeer names. Nobody ever knows which gifts are theirs until Christmas morning when she makes the reindeer announcement. We still attend candle light service at our church together as a family, and we always go out to eat together on Christmas Eve (wherever we can find open - it's part of the fun!) Some of our traditions we sadly "outgrew"  with age. My two sisters and I shared a full size bed on Christmas Eve every single year until my older sister got married!
What traditions does your family have around the holidays? I would LOVE to hear about these! Comment below so that other families can read your traditions too!

NEWS FOR THE WEEK

STEM CHALLENGE
We are so excited about our STEM challenge on December 16th with Mrs. Whisler’s class!
We are in need of several items for our project. If you are able to help us out please visit
http://tinyurl.com/dec16STEM
to sign up for the items that you are able to send.  Remember, you will most likely need to do this from a computer. Or you can email me and I will add you to the list. Please send all donations by Monday, December 14th. If you are planning on coming to help, we will begin at 9:00AM.

HOLIDAY FOOD DRIVE
Willard East will be collecting items for our Holiday Food Drive. Each class is assigned a specific item to bring. Our class is in charge of bringing Ramen Noodles this year. We will be collecting items from Monday, December 7th to Friday, December 11th. All items will be donated to the Willard Food     Pantry.

COATS!
The time has come where the weather is getting much colder. Please send a heavy coat with your child to school each day. The temperature high for the day can be so deceiving!!! The outside temp is usually much lower at our recess time than the   predicted high for the day. Please let me know if your child is in need of a coat this year.
