MERRY CHRISTMAS!
I would like to take this chance to say Merry Christmas to you and your family. I feel SO very blessed and cannot believe that the school year is half over! I have loved watching your children grow and learn so far this year and I cherish the time I have been given with them.  I hope your family has a wonderful and blessed holiday season.
With everything that has taken place recently I have really had my students on my mind. I made hugs, high fives  and laughter a priority this week in my classroom. We had such a fun week together.

BIG NEWS FOR OUR CLASSROOM
Mrs. Holly Whisler will be student teaching in our room during the spring semester. She will start with us on Monday, January 7th and will be with us until May when she graduates! Holly is a Willard graduate and was actually my A+ tutor her senior year of high school. She is very involved in the Willard district. She is one of the H.S. cheer coaches and has done a couple of long term sub jobs at East. ( Last year she filled in for Mrs. Grant and she was also the long term secretary for the first few weeks of school this year.) She will be teaching lessons, communicating with you and will actually take over my classroom for a couple of weeks later during her placement. This is the last step for her before graduating! We are so fortunate to have her.  I am  positive that she is going to do an incredible job!

YEARBOOKS
Don’t forget 2012-2013 Yearbooks are on sale for the cheapest price of the year!  Purchase before January 8th and the price is only $15.  If you wait until after that date the price will be $17.   Please DO NOT send cash to school with your student. You can order online at: http://www.jostens.com/yearbooks/ybk_lp_main.html

HAPPY NEW YEAR!
We spent some time brainstorming things that are connected to the new year. We talked about staying up late, watching the ball drop, hanging out with friends and family, changing the calendar, and making plans for the upcoming year. My students did a little writing about what they wish to happen in the new year. I got quite the variety of responses. Everything from a more beautiful Earth, to no more spiders. These were super cute and I can't wait for you to read them. But first they will be on display in our hallway for a little while. If you are in the building, I encourage you to check them out. It is very refreshing to see the world from the eyes of a child.

PUBLISHED BOOK PROJECT
We are getting ready to start a very exciting project in firsts grade—our published book! Many parents were able to see an example of the published book project during Parent Orientation Night. Please be on the look out for some important information that will come home soon (including the permission slip.) This is a fantastic way to teach the writing process and the students enjoy this incredible opportunity! As always, do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns.

Please make sure your child has tennis shoes on Mondays and Wednesdays.
