HUGE NEWS!!!
Our practicum student, Ms. Perez, knew that I had a Donors Chose project to help our class get a couple of new Chrome Books. My  project was originally for two Chrome Books but Ms. Perez found a business in Branson to donate THREE  brand new Chrome Books to our classroom! They were delivered to school on Wednesday afternoon and we hope to have them up and running by Monday.
THANK YOU, MS. PEREZ!!!
Don’t forget that we are still collecting books to give to Ms. Perez on her last day in our classroom. These can be used or new. Please let me know if you have any questions.  Her last day will be Wednesday, November 18th.

Turkey Project
Some of our turkey projects have started to make their way into our classroom. They are looking GREAT!!! Please make sure that your child’s project is completed and
returned by Friday, November 13th. We will be using them for a writing project the following week.

FIELD TRIP PERMISSION SLIP
Check your child’s backpack for the field trip permission slip. These are due with money by Monday, November 16th. Please remember that we can only accept cash.
I am attaching a copy of the permission slip below - just in case you need another copy!

BOX TOPS
Please keep your eye for box tops on products that you purchase! Clip them and send them to school with your student as you find them!

IT'S ALMOST FIELD TRIP TIME!!!

We had a very special presentation on Thursday by one of our very own classmates! Ethan worked super hard with Mrs. Coffey to learn all about the solar system. After researching, he made an incredible presentation using thinglink to share his information with our class. He did a fantastic job! It can be very nerve racking getting in front of the class and sharing! GREAT JOB, ETHAN!!! You can check out his thinklink here!
FIELD TRIP THURSDAY
Just a few reminders and helpful tips about our trip…
All students should wear their Friday shirt on the field trip.We will leave the school at 9:30. Our tour of Fantastic
Caverns will begin at 10:00 and last 90 minutes. This will put us at Ritter Springs about 11:45 or shortly after. Right now the weather is looking cool but dry, however they are calling for rain on Wednesday—so we will keep an eye on the forecast. Obviously, the rain will not change our plans for the cave, but if it does rain on Thursday we will return to our classroom for lunch instead of going to the park. I recommend sending at least a warm hoodie or coat with each child.  It has been very cool at the park for us in the past and the cave is 60 degrees.
Lunch Tip: If your child is bringing a home lunch I highly recommend packing it in a disposable bag  -with only disposable items inside. This will allow them to eat, throw away their trash, and play without keeping track of a lunchbox.  Please let me know if you have any questions!

PICTURE DAY MAKE UP
Our spring pictures have been rescheduled for Thursday, April 9th.

GENIUS HOUR IS HERE!!!
We have been talking about it a lot and the kids are getting excited—it is finally here! We will officially launch Genius Hour next Tuesday. All students will be in their regular classroom Tuesday and Thursday, but beginning Tuesday, April 1st we will be working in small groups with a variety of helpers. This is going to be great and I promise to write about our experience on my blog in case you want to “tag along” for the fun!

PictureJust a little peer editing to make our stories stronger!
This week we spent a lot of time working with buddies! My students absolutely loved the time they had to work with a friend. We spent some quality time working on our character series books with a buddy. This allowed us to read our story out loud, checking to make sure the story read smoothly. Our buddies also asked us questions about our stories and helped us add important details to make our stories stronger.

In reading, we read to a friend and worked on our fluency and expression. We got to use my favorite series, the Piggie and Gerald books by Mo Willems, to practice. We had so much fun doing this! I LOVE it when laughter fills my classroom!!!

AND... let's not forget about our new favorite Friday tradition: reading buddy time with Mrs. Hillenburg's third grade class! We look forward to this time every week. Why didn't we start this earlier in the year?!?!?

Thank you so much to everyone that was able to join us for our Spring Concert. I think the students did a GREAT job!!! It was fun to see Mr. Heller, Mr. Morton, Dr. Medlin, and Coach J as the Village People!

WALKING FIELD TRIP
The first grade students will be walking to Zott’s on Thursday, May 1st. We will be leaving the school shortly before 2:00 and will return around 3:15. The cost will be $1.00, which will get your child a tasty treat! Please see the  permission slip that came home attached to the newsletter.

MAP TESTING
Our 3rd and 4th grade students will be taking the MAP test next week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and the following week on Tuesday and Wednesday. This does change our schedule. We will have special classes in the morning instead of the afternoon. To help break our day up, we have some special activities planned for the first graders. Each first grade teacher will be doing a different science experiment involving ice cream. The students will rotate to a different teacher each day until they complete all three science experiments. The second week we will be doing the same type of rotation, only we will be reading books and completing a craft or activity to go with each book.

MATH
WOW!!! As a class, we did FANTASTIC on the Unit 7 test! The students worked so hard and it really paid off! Now we will move on to our standard and non-standard measurement unit. This unit is a lot of fun and the kids always love the activities that go along with it.

KINDERGARTEN SCREENING
Do you have a child (or know a child) that will start kindergarten next year? The office is now accepting
appointments for kindergarten screening! Call Angie at 417-742-4639 to set up a time!

Picture
We had such a great time on our field trip last week! I am sorry it took me a little while to get these pictures up. The students LOVED seeing the cave formations, digging for fossils, seeing the blind fish, and our picnic at Ritter Springs! The students asked some fantastic questions and really showed off all the learning they had been doing prior to our trip! I think all the fun wore them out because it was silent in our classroom after we returned. One of our friends *may* have fallen asleep at the very end of the day. Field trips can be exhausting!

SPELLING WORDS

MRS. KRAMER ABSENT
I will be at a building leadership team meeting all day Tuesday. I will also be leaving at 11:30 on Thursday to finalize our adoption! I have been waiting for this day for so long and I cannot believe it is finally here! Mrs. Young will be my substitute both days. She does such a wonderful job in my classroom!

SPRING PICTURES
Just a reminder, please send your child’s spring pictures back if you do not wish to purchase them.  Don’t forget you also have the option to pay for them online.

REMINDER
April 4th will be a 1/2 day for students. School will dismiss at 12:40.

MARK YOUR CALENDAR
The Willard East Spring Concert will be on Tuesday, April 15 at the Willard High School Gym.

FIELD TRIP
Your child brought home a permission slip to go on the first grade field trip today! We will be traveling to Fantastic Caverns on Tuesday, March 26th. Cost is $8.00 (cash only, please) for students and is due with the signed permission slip by Wednesday, March 20th.

END OF QUARTER
Can you believe that the end of 3rd quarter is already here?!?!? Grade cards will come home during the week we return from Spring Break!

SNOW DAY MAKE UP
The district make up days will be Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24th.

ASK YOUR CHILD ABOUT…
Nouns, verbs, adjectives, subtraction story problems, the Book Fair, our guest speaker from the zoo, and what we learned about owls!

Picture
This week we learned about owls. We read several great non-fiction books and gathered as much information as possible on these birds.

Picture
We also had a special guest from the zoo come and visit. She brought us three different types of owls to check out!

Picture
We worked hard on opinion writing this week by writing a review of a book that we like! Then, we used a nifty app called Croak.it! to record our book review. This app lets you share up to 30 seconds of recorded audio through an emailed link. I used the link and converted them to QRs. These were posted in our hallway during Family Reading Night. When you scan the code (you need to have a QR scanner app for this to work) it will play the recorded book review!

We wrapped up the week by celebrating the birthday of Dr. Seuss (yes, a little late). We made Seuss Juice and investigated the drink using our five senses. We also made friends with some pre-K kids from Tiger Cubs Preschool. Mrs. Beth brought her morning class over to read with our kids in honor of Read Across America Day. They had planned on coming last Friday but the snowy weather caused us to change to this week instead. We had a great week and it was the perfect way to wrap up third quarter - just in time for SPRING BREAK!!!

SPECIAL CLASS SCHEDULE AND MAP
Just a reminder that on MAP Testing Days (Wednesday and Thursday), we will switch our special class time with the third grade classes. SPELLING WORDS
sick, trick, brick, duck, truck, slicker
****  Correction: the newsletter lists brink as a spelling word instead of brick. The words above are correct.
We will not take our spelling test until Friday, April 13th. This should give every student able time to study and score 100%.

FIELD TRIP REMINDERS
*Please dress your child in his or her blue school shirt. This will help others identify the students in our group.
* Remember to send your child’s lunch in a disposable bag / containers, labeled with his or her name.
* If you are attending the field trip, you are welcome to meet us at Fantastic Caverns a few minutes before 10:00 OR you can follow the bus. We will leave at 9:30 from school.
* The cave temperature is right at 60 degrees. Your child will most likely want a light weight jacket or sweatshirt to wear in the cave, even if it is warm outside.

NO SCHOOL
Don’t forget… school will not be in session on Friday, April 6th or Monday, April 9th!

SPECIAL CLASS SCHEDULE AND MAP
On MAP Testing Days, we will switch our special class time with the third grade classes. This means that our special classes will start at 8:45 instead of 1:00. We do this so the third graders have a larger amount of uninterrupted time to complete the testing.

ASK YOUR CHILD ABOUT...
Stalactites and stalagmites, types of caves,  thumbprint stories, using voice in writing, finger knitting in art, and using dialogue in writting.

FIELD TRIP REMINDERS AND INFORMATION
* Permission Slips and money are due WEDNESDAY, APRIL 4th
* If your child is bringing a lunch from home please put the lunch in a lunch sack or plastic Wal-Mart type bag and label it with your child’s name and our class code (1-K). This helps because after lunch we can throw everything away and not have to keep track of lunch boxes at the park.
* Due to limited space on the bus, all parents attending the field trip will need to provide their own transportation.

NO SCHOOL
Don’t forget… school will not be in session on Friday, April 6th or Monday, April 9th!

LOOKING FOR A WAY TO HELP YOUR CHILD?
