Aside from our Community Helpers unit we worked hard during math time comparing numbers and adding simple equations. During writing time we worked on developing our personal narratives and learning strategies for spelling unknown words. Ask your child to tell you about one of their "seed" stories and to explain what they can do if they are trying to spell a new word. (Say it, slide it, hear it, write it!)
We also spent the week launching Read to Someone, the third component of Daily 5. We learned how to sit with our partner (EEKK - elbow, elbow, knee, knee), how to decide who is reading first, and what our voices should sound like during this time. Finally, during our whole group reading time we focused on making some predictions and relating to the characters in the books we are reading.
